Axinn Veltrop & Harkrider LLP Added to The National Law Journal’s 2010 Midsize Hot List
July 12, 2010, New York, NY — The National Law Journal has added Axinn Veltrop & Harkrider LLP to their well known annual “Midsize Hot List.” The National Law Journal's Midsize Hot List includes 20 law firms that have thrived amid the economic downturn. From among the many nominations The National Law Journal received, they selected firms that experienced a string of successes and that showed innovative ways to run their operations despite the economy. This year's Midsize Hot List shows the agility of law firms with 50 to 150 attorneys in ducking the recession's blows.
As Kevin Lincoln of The National Law Journal wrote, “The maxim says, ‘To succeed, find one thing and do it really well.’ Axinn, Veltrop & Harkrider apparently has followed it. In the past two years, 53-attorney Axinn has concentrated on developing core practices: antitrust, intellectual property and complex litigation. The strategy has led to important victories. Last August, partners Stephen Axinn and John Harkrider led a team that helped Ball Corp.'s $577 million acquisition of aluminum-can plants and related contracts from Anheuser-Busch InBev. The attorneys' work enabled the company to win the U.S. Department of Justice's approval for the deal without a second request for information. In February, the firm won approval for Bemis Co.'s $1.2 billion acquisition of the Food Americas operations of Alcan Packaging, part of Rio Tinto. In a dispute between Mutual Pharmaceutical and Tyco Healthcare Group, the firm won a judgment for Mutual that let the company continue production of a generic for sleep-aid drug temazepam. With offices in Hartford, Conn.; Washington; and New York, it also won summary judgment in New York v. Group Health Inc. that validated a new federal regulation for mergers.”
“I couldn’t be more pleased,” added founding partner Stephen Axinn. “I’m very happy with the way we have been able to weather the downturn — by drawing up a game plan and sticking to it.”
